"The staff and Dr. Reid were very courteous. They seemed genuinely happy to see me and were attentive and professional. It is nice to go to an office where the people actually seem happy to work there and really listen and care about what you tell them." "Best dentist I've ever had also the dental technicians."
Kids face unique dental challenges as they grow and their mouths develop, particularly as they grow older and are more prone to developing cavities in both baby teeth and adult teeth. As they age, it’s important to see an experienced family dentist for pediatric care, such as Dr. Reid.
During your child’s six-month appointments at our office, Dr. Armando Reid can track their oral development, assess their oral health, check for signs of cavities and gum disease, and clean and polish their smile to keep their teeth healthy.
With specialized care from Dr. Reid, your child can develop a better attitude toward dentistry, learn more about at-home oral care, and build the skills and knowledge they need to keep their smiles healthy for years and decades to come.
Stainless steel dental crowns are often recommended for kids with cavities in their baby teeth. These pre-fitted crowns are tooth-shaped, and can be placed onto your child’s tooth with minimal preparation. The crown covers up and protects the damaged tooth, preventing further complications and keeping the tooth in great shape until it falls out as part of the natural eruption of your child’s adult teeth.
If your child loses a baby tooth early, a space maintainer will be used to fill the gap where the missing tooth used to be. This small metal device rests in the area where your child lost their tooth, and prevents the surrounding teeth from shifting. In turn, this allows your child’s adult teeth to erupt without any issues in the future.
A frenectomy may be needed if your child has an over-developed lingual (tongue) or labial (lip) frenulum. The frenulum is the thin band of tissue that attaches the lips to the gums, or attaches the tongue to the bottom of the mouth.
An over-developed frenulum can cause issues with speech and feeding, so a frenectomy is used to snip the frenulum and restore proper range of motion of the lips and gums. Dr. Reid is an expert in pain-free, minimally-invasive frenectomy treatment for kids of all ages.
This is sometimes called a “baby root canal,” and is required to treat infected baby teeth. In this treatment, the tooth is opened up using a dental drill, and Dr. Reid removes decayed material from the inside of the tooth. Then, he applies a special material that helps the remaining tooth “pulp” heal, and eliminates the infection.
Your child’s tooth will then be covered with a filling or a dental crown, which will keep the tooth intact until it falls out naturally as your child’s adult teeth erupt.
