At our office, we offer both traditional veneers and Lumineers. Here are a few of the differences between these treatment options.
Typically, you will be a good candidate for both Lumineers and veneers as long as your mouth is healthy. However, Lumineers are much thinner than traditional veneers, so they are not as good at treating stained teeth.
Lumineers are essentially identical to veneers, but they use a special type of porcelain that is very thin, yet strong.
Because Lumineers are thinner than veneers, they usually do not require your teeth to be trimmed, which makes this treatment less invasive. Lumineers are also reversible, which some patients may prefer.
"The staff and Dr. Reid were very courteous. They seemed genuinely happy to see me and were attentive and professional. It is nice to go to an office where the people actually seem happy to work there and really listen and care about what you tell them." "Best dentist I've ever had also the dental technicians."
Veneers are thin, tooth-shaped shells that are permanently bonded onto your teeth. They cover up the front surfaces of your teeth to restore your smile. Depending on your case, they can typically treat issues like gaps in your smile, misshapen or small teeth, uneven teeth, severe teeth stains, and even slightly crooked or crowded teeth.
To begin, Dr. Reid will clean and numb your mouth, then use a dental drill to prepare your teeth for veneers. Once your teeth have been prepared, he will take impressions and images of your smile. These will be sent to a dental lab where your veneers will be built.
You’ll get a set of temporary veneers to cover up your teeth while you wait for your permanent veneers, which will arrive at our office in 2-3 weeks. Then, you’ll come in or a follow-up appointment, and your veneers will be attached to your teeth permanently.
The placement process for Lumineers is very similar, but Lumineers do not require your teeth to be trimmed, in most cases, so you will not need an initial preparation appointment. However, you will still need to see Dr. Reid to have impressions taken of your mouth.
At our office, Dr. Armando Reid specializes in smile makeovers. A smile makeover uses multiple treatments, such as veneers and teeth whitening, to completely restore your smile and boost your self-confidence.
